The Society of Hospital Medicine and Wiley are happy to announce that The Hospitalist has received an APEX Award of Excellence for its June 2025 issue.
The issue was one of 10 magazines honored with an Award of Excellence for Magazines—Writing (entire issue). The issue included features on healthcare for LGBTQIA+ individuals and the trials and tribulations of teaching residents, along with articles on negotiating for hospitalists, what hospitalists need to know about ICE visits, managing medical errors, and more.
“This recognition reflects The Hospitalist’s longstanding role as a trusted source of information for hospital medicine professionals navigating an increasingly complex healthcare landscape,” said Dr. Eric E. Howell, CEO of SHM. “The Hospitalist—and SHM as a whole—remain committed to advancing the field of hospital medicine and providing members with the insights they need to deliver exceptional care.”
The Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) program recognizes excellence in publishing by professional communicators. APEX Awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content, and the ability to achieve overall communication excellence. APEX Awards of Excellence recognize exceptional entries in individual subcategories.
There were about 1,000 entries. A total of 100 Grand Awards were presented to honor outstanding work in 13 major categories, and 400 Awards of Excellence recognized exceptional entries across 100 subcategories.
“This fourth consecutive APEX award is a testament to the steady excellence and teamwork of the Wiley and SHM editors and editorial board members. But we could not have brought forward the amazing work of SHM members without the members themselves continually finding new ways to advocate for and improve the care of our patients,” said Weijen Chang, MD, FAAP, SFHM, physician editor of The Hospitalist and chief, division of hospital medicine at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Fla.
The Hospitalist has received 13 APEX Awards since its inaugural issue in 1997, and this marks its fourth consecutive win.
